Marcia Marx, Ph.D.University of California, Riverside, 1993 Professor Marx teaches in the Ethnic and Women’s Studies Programs and Department of Sociology at California State University, San Bernardino, developing numerous classes for the programs and Sociology, including such topics as race and ethnic relations, gender perspectives, social change, ethnic studies research methods, and women and work. In addition to expertise in race and ethnic relations and gender, her specializations include qualitative methodology and large-scale organizations. She has published in journals including Resources for Feminist Research, the Journal of Lesbian Studies, and Environmental Management. Her research interests focus on pedagogical issues including publications in the Journal of Excellence in College Teaching, Sociology Through Active Learning, and Critical Pedagogy in the Sociology Classroom. She was invited to the Oxford University Round Table discussions (2003) on women and leadership. Her most recent research project involves examination of nurses’ work experiences in medical bureaucracies to improve the delivery of care. Professor Marx’s work as advisor of the Sociology Club and honor society Alpha Kappa Delta resulted in students’ participation numerous projects, and real social change both locally and nationally. Her commitment to equality continues to be realized through her research, teaching, and community service. |
