Professor Texeira has interest in racial and gender inequality, especially as those topics relate to the criminal justice system. Her research focuses on police personnel, African-Americans and the criminal justice system, the "war on drugs" and drug policy in general. Her dissertation examined African-American women law enforcement officers in one large policing agency. She has presented papers at various regional and national professional conferences having to do with her areas of specialization, and has published articles, chapters, and essays examining these topics. The classes she teaches coincide with her interests, including the Black family, Black social stratification, Black women and feminism, media and social inequality, and critical criminology. She has served as an officer in both the Pacific Sociological Association and the American Sociological Association. She has also spoken before numerous community and civic organizations on topics related to her teaching and research. |
