Professor Miller's areas of expertise include study of family, education, and social policy issues.  She has conducted research on adolescents, their dating and courtship behaviors, school desegregation, race relations, the training of student teachers, and issues related to intergovernmental coordination, locally and internationally.  Her research interests include outcomes assessment in social service delivery programs, values harmonization in international education programs, and public management policy reform.  Her recent publications include “The Termination of State-Run International Trade Programs in California: Perspectives on Contributing Factors and Future Policy Options” in Public Organization Review: A Global Journal with co-authors G. Koehler and G. Kress, "What Disaster Response Management Can Learn from Chaos Theory," published in the Handbook of Crisis and Emergency Management with co-authors G. Koehler and G. Kress and several evaluation studies and policy reports for the County of San Bernardino (with G. Kress and B. Watts).  Her work appears in: Mid-American Review of Sociology, National Social Science Perspectives Journal, Public Opinion Quarterly, Sociology and Social Research, The Journal of Adolescent Research, and Youth and Society

Professor Miller's current course assignments include Sociology of Family Violence, Senior Seminar: Advanced Studies in the Family, Sociology of Education, and Social and Cultural Perspectives in the Social Sciences.  She was a Visiting Professor at the University of Applied Sciences, Fulda, Germany in 1997-98 and 1994 and a Guest Research Professor at the Post Graduate School of Administrative Sciences, Speyer, Germany in 1994.  Professor Miller also was a Scholar in Residence at Child Trends, Inc. and Senior Field Director for the Rand Corporation as part of their Project ALERT survey staff.  Professor Miller coordinated the BA in Human Services Program and the Master of Arts in Social Sciences, supervises student interns, and is Chair of the Sociology Department.
